Alienation and young people

Do you ever feel like you’re different?

That is, different so much that you’re in your own mind?

That there is no one really out there who understands who you are, no institution, no adult, no group of friends.

You have a way of thinking and deep feelings that are inaccessible to the rest of the world, and hey, you may as well not even try.

You feel that there is no chance (absolutely no way!) you could ever be understood by those around you. You’ve resolved to deal with it yourself, in your own head, forever.

And also, you feel lost, like you’re floating, or rather falling, at a very fast rate, because there is nothing for you to anchor on- no belief system, no rule, no plan. All the rules don’t make sense, and no one seems to understand what they’re doing. And all you feel is… alone.

The incredible thing is that this powerful feeling of loneliness and powerlessness which we might call alienation is experienced by millions of young people around the world.

You are not alone in experiencing it, even though you are all different. And it is getting easier and easier these days to burrow away under your bedsheets with TikTok, Instagram, and sleep… it is getting easier and easier to give up on showing what you have to the rest of the world.

Who knows - the results might be incredible.

You might find more people agree with you.

You might find strange reactions you never anticipated.

And most of all, you might find yourself. You’ve got the time to play and the ability to share.

Let’s hear what you have to say - about yourself, life, the world… everything.

We’re curious!
