Mental Health Occupational Therapy

Being young is tough! It’s dangerous to go alone, here take this... 🧙

Occupational Therapy, or OT for short, is all about helping you perform the everyday stuff you both want, and need to do. At Voix, we give you the practical tools and skills to help you get more out of the activities that are part of your everyday life. This includes things you want to do, like sports, socialising with mates and other hobbies, and things you have to do, like going to school, getting ready in the morning and taking care of yourself.

At Voix, we understand that life can get you down and how important it is to keep doing you. OT helps you to figure out what exactly is getting in the way, and work together on how to overcome those barriers. We’re looking forward to supporting you to be your best.

Some areas that OT at Voix can help you with:

☺️ Working out practical ways to manage your every-day frustrations and distress

⏰ Building healthy routines

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Helping you to better understand friendships, family relationships and other social relationships

✏️ Making the jump from primary school to high school

We get that individuality is what sets you apart from others. We work with you and together we figure out what the best vibe is. If you’re not a fan of stuffy offices or if you’ve had enough of sitting on a couch, let’s get outside and get our bodies moving. However, if you’re more of an indoors-y person, that’s cool too!

Additionally, OT at Voix offers a set of standardised assessments for young people and their families who are wondering about an Autism Spectrum Disorder. This pre-diagnostic package helps families to make more informed choice about a full, and often costly, diagnostic assessment.

Jeru Lopez

Senior Occupational Therapist

Since graduating a Bachelor of Science Occupational Therapy from Edith Cowan University in 2016, Jeru has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience across both the private and public health sectors, with a keen interest in working with young people with mental health challenges and neurodiversity. Most recently, Jeru worked with the children, adolescents and their families at Perth Children's Hospital's Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit where he supported them to identify and overcome barriers to engaging in the tasks and occupations that create meaning in their lives. To do this, Jeru provided age-appropriate assessments, short term therapy and avenues to learn and hone skills in practical ways.
Jeru understands the importance of participating in meaningful, everyday activities and strives towards enabling others to find enrichment in them. He gets that mental health struggles can be lonely sometimes and values a 'team around the person' approach. This means he aims to include his clients' friends, families and key people in partnership where practicable and appropriate.
Outside of his practice, Jeru finds meaning in working with his hands on his cars, cooking and creating timber based furniture. He is an outdoor type person, and enjoys playing volleyball and going for a skate. He is also an avid Avatar Studios fan and has watched and rewatched the series many times over. These hobbies help Jeru to maintain a balanced perspective on health and wellbeing.
